A Room-by-Room Cleaning Checklist That Stays Small

Use short kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and living-room checklists with a clear stopping point for each space.

How to use this checklist

Choose one room and one level: minimum or fuller reset. Do not treat the whole list as a daily requirement. Before you start, put supplies in reach and decide what “done for now” means. The checklist gives each room a visible finish line.

Kitchen

Minimum: clear food waste, put dishes in the sink or dishwasher, and wipe one food-preparation surface. Fuller reset: wash or load dishes, wipe counters and the stovetop, empty the bin if full, and sweep the most-used floor area. Follow the cleaning instructions for your surfaces and appliances.

Bathroom

Minimum: clear the sink, remove rubbish, and make the toilet usable. Fuller reset: clean the sink and toilet, wipe the mirror, replace towels, and check that supplies are stocked. Use cleaning products according to their labels; do not mix chemicals.

Bedroom

Minimum: clear a path, put laundry in a hamper, and make the bed usable. Fuller reset: put away one category of clothes, change bedding if due, clear one bedside surface, and vacuum or sweep a small area. If laundry is the sticking point, use the laundry workflow.

Living room

Minimum: remove rubbish and dishes, then clear one seat. Fuller reset: return items to their homes, wipe a frequently used surface, straighten blankets, and clean the floor area people use most. A 15-minute reset is a good fit here.

Copyable room task“Bathroom minimum: clear sink, remove rubbish, make toilet usable.” Schedule that as one task. Keep the fuller reset as a separate task so it does not hide the small version.

Adapt the list to your home

Remove tasks for spaces you do not have. Add tasks tied to your household: pet care, accessibility needs, or shared areas. Assign ownership and frequency only after trying the checklist once. In Soapify, rooms can hold separate tasks so the next action is easy to find. The weekly schedule helps distribute them over time.

Common questions

Do I need to clean every room every week?

No. Frequency depends on use, household size, and needs. Start with the rooms that affect daily life most.

What if the list still feels too big?

Choose the minimum for one room and stop. Our guide to starting when overwhelmed begins with one action.
